Working Memory Training: Can You Really Train Your Brain?
Analyzing the clinical reality of 'Brain Games' and their effectiveness in permanent symptom reduction.
The Illusion of the High Score
There are many apps (Cogmed, Lumosity, etc.) that promise to "fix" your ADHD by training your Working Memory.
The Clinical Reality: Meta-analyses show that while you *can* get better at the specific test in the app, this skill does NOT "transfer" to real-world tasks like following multi-step directions or staying focused in a classroom.
The 'Offloading' Solution:
Instead of trying to "expand your internal RAM," you should focus on Offloading.
Internal RAM: Trying to remember the 5 things you need at the store (High risk of failure).
External RAM: Writing a list on your phone (Low risk of failure).
Don't spend your energy trying to "train" a biological limit; spend it building external systems that make that limit irrelevant.
