Unwritten Rules and Social Instinct
Decoding the invisible social codes that neurotypicals know reflexively but ND individuals must learn manually.
The Manual Navigation System
> Clinical Terminology Note: *The diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome has been replaced by "Autism Spectrum Disorder" in the DSM-5 (2013). However, we use this term in historical and identity contexts to support those who were diagnosed under this label and to aid in information search.*
Neurotypical individuals enter a room and "feel" the Unwritten Rules (how loud to be, how close to stand, when to stop talking). For an AuDHD/Autistic person, these rules are an invisible language. They have to Calculate social distance manually.
The Social 'CPU': Because this isn't "pre-programmed" in our hardware, we use our intelligence to "solve" social puzzles in real-time. This is why we get tired so quickly. If I'm listening to you, I'm also calculating: *"Am I blinking enough? Was that joke offensive? Should I laugh now? Is it my turn to speak?"*
When someone says you're "cold" or "rude," they are usually just seeing the moment your "Social CPU" hit 100% capacity and shut down.
