Time-Blindness in Relationships
How 'ADHD Time' impacts reliability, trust, and the feeling of being prioritized by a partner.
Waiting as a Social Value
To a neurotypical partner, being 20 minutes late to a date feels like a message: *"I don't value your time."* To the ADHD partner, those 20 minutes didn't exist. They were in a state of Hyper-Focus or struggled with the "One More Thing" syndrome.
This mismatch creates a deep rift. The partner feels neglected; the ADHD individual feels shamed for a disability they are trying to manage.
The Fix:
Buffer Time: Always add 15 minutes to your travel time.
Alarms for Transitions: Don't trust your brain to "know" when to leave. Set an alarm for 10 minutes *before* you need to walk out the door.
Honesty: Tell your partner: *"My brain lost track of the clock. It's not because I don't care about you—I'm working on a better alarm system."*
