The Hobby Graveyard: The Search for Dopamine
Why we 'Obsess' over a new hobby for 3 weeks and then never look at it again.
The Thrill of the New
Does your closet have a half-finished scarf, an abandoned guitar, and a set of paints you used once? Welcome to The Hobby Graveyard.
For the ADHD brain, a "New Hobby" is a Dopamine Goldmine. The excitement of a new interest acts as a temporary "Cure" for executive dysfunction. You find yourself Hyper-focusing on research, buying the best tools, and practicing 8 hours a day.
The Crash: As soon as the "Newness" wears off, the brain stops producing the dopamine. The project that was "Fun" yesterday now feels like "Boring Homework." You aren't "Quitting"—your brain has just "Moved on" to the next source of novelty.
The Solution: The 30-Day Rule:
Don't buy the "Master Level" tools immediately. Use the "Beginner version" for 30 days. If you are still interested after a month, *then* you can buy the expensive stuff.
