Setting Boundaries and Saying No (V2)
Deeper strategies for the 'Self-Protective No' and managing the guilt of unmasking.
The Guilt of Unmasking
When you start setting boundaries, the people in your life might be confused. They are used to your Mask of Compliance—the you that says "yes" to everything and hides their fatigue.
The Transition: When you start saying *"No, I'm too overstimulated to go out,"* they might think you've become "colder" or "less fun." This is a difficult stage of Unmasking. You are trading their "comfort" for your "health."
The Script: *"I have been pushing myself too hard for a long time. In order to keep being a good friend/partner, I need to start being more honest about my energy limits. It's not a change in my love for you, but a change in how I care for myself."*
