Sensory Profiling: Mapping Your Nervous System
Identifying your 'Highs' and 'Lows': A systematic look at the 8 sensory systems and your unique thresholds.
Beyond the Big 5
Most people think of 5 senses. In neurodiversity, we focus on 8.
The 'Secret' Senses:
Proprioception: If this system is "Lower" (Hypo-sensitive), you might feel "Clumsy" or run into walls. You might need Deep Pressure (like heavy blankets) to feel "Grounding."
Interoception: This is the "Body Voice." If this is weak, you might forget to eat until you are "Starving-Angry" or forget to drink water until you have a headache.
Avoiders vs. Seekers:
Avoiders: These brains are "High Sensitivity" (Hyper-sensitive). A loud siren feels like an explosion. They need Protection.
Seekers: These brains are "Low Sensitivity" (Hypo-sensitive). They feel "Bored" and "Numb" unless they have loud music or intense movement. They need Stimulation.
Knowing which category you fall into for each of the 8 systems is the "Cheat Code" for managing your daily energy.
