Sensory Diet and Environment: Home Engineering
Creating- a home that works for your nervous system: From 'Sensory Pits' to 'Quiet Corners.'
The Home as a Scaffolding
Your home is either a "Battery Charger" or a "Battery Drainer."
For a person with ADHD/Autism, Visual Clutter is "Audible noise" for the eyes. Each messy pile is an "Unfinished task" that screams at your brain.
Designing your Sensory Diet:
Lighting Reset: Switch to warm-toned LED bulbs. Overhead lighting (the "Big Light") can trigger light-sensitivity and anxiety. Use "Pools of light" (lamps) instead.
The 'Safe' Textures: If you hate the feel of your sofa, use a soft throw blanket. If you hate walkong on cold tile, get a rug. These small physical "Ughs" add up to a big "I'm Stressed" signal by 5 PM.
The 'Transition' Space: Create a small bench or chair by the door where you can sit for 5 minutes after arriving home. This "Loading Zone" helps your brain transition from "Outside World" to "Home Safety."
