Safe Space Design: Creating Your Sanctuary
Designing a physical and psychological environment to reduce sensory overload and allow for 'Decompression.'
The Architecture of Peace
The world outside is loud, bright, and demanding. To survive as a neurodivergent person, you need a Safe Space. This is your "Decompression Tank."
Designing your Sanctuary:
Lighting: Use dimmable, warm-toned lights. Avoid the "Big Overhead Light" which can trigger a fight/flight response.
Sound: If you can't have silence, have a high-quality white noise machine or a "Safety Playlist."
The 'No-Judgment' Rule: Your safe space is a place where you don't have to sit correctly, answer texts, or act "Normal." It is a zone for Radical Unmasking.
Proactively spending 30 minutes in your safe space *before* you reach a meltdown point is the best gift you can give your nervous system.
