Safe Foods and Routines: The Sensory Sanctuary
Why many ND people eat the 'Same thing every day' and how routines provide a sensory sanctuary from the chaos of the world.
The Logic of 'Samefooding'
Have you ever found a specific sandwich or pasta and eaten it for 14 days in a row? This is called Samefooding. While society calls it "picky," in neurodiversity, it is a Tactical Regulation Strategy.
Why the 'Same' is 'Safe':
1. Dopamine Economy: You don't have to spend a single drop of executive energy "Choosing" or "Cooking" something new.
2. Sensory Reliability: For someone with oral-sensory sensitivity, a "new" food is a risk. It might be slimy, too crunchy, or bitter. A "Safe Food" is 100% predictable.
3. The Routine Anchor: In a world where your brain is constantly "Changing channels," having one thing that is Always the same acts as a powerful anchor for your sanity.
