Processing Delay: Time to Think
Understanding the extra time the brain needs to make sense of verbal or visual information; realizing it is about processing, not intelligence.
The Brain's Loading Time: Why Can't I Answer Immediately?
In neurodivergent brains, especially across the ADHD and Autism spectrum, deciphering incoming information (questions, instructions, or social cues) and forming an appropriate response can take longer. This situation is similar to the internet "buffering." The information is there, but it is not yet ready to be presented.
As noted by advocates like Damla Kuduoğlu, this is not an indicator of intelligence. Many neurodivergent individuals process information much more deeply, multi-dimensionally, and in greater detail, which takes time. If the person in front of you remains silent after a question, it doesn't mean "I don't know"; it means "My brain is currently downloading the information."
