Medication and the Reality of Functioning
How medication creates the 'Level Playing Field' and the difference between 'Curing' and 'Assisting.'
Closing the Functioning Gap
For the ADHD brain, the distance between "wanting to do a task" and "starting the task" is physically longer than for neurotypicals. This is the "Execution Gap."
Medication works by increasing the availability of chemical messengers like dopamine and norepinephrine in the synapses. It doesn't "make you" work, but it reduces the Biochemical Friction that causes procrastination. It creates a "Window of Opportunity" where your prefrontal cortex is finally in control of your impulsive motor.
The Golden Rule: Use your medicated hours to perform the tasks that require the most focus. Don't waste your "Peak Focus" on low-value scrolling or cleaning. Treat the medication as a high-performance fuel that requires a clear "Map" (your to-do list) to be effective.
