Hyperactivity vs. Naughtiness: A Guide for Parents
Why 'Running in the house' is often a biological need for stimulation, not a desire to break family rules.
Moving is Thinking
For an ADHD child, the order to "Sit Still" is almost physically impossible. Their brain is telling their legs to move so that their brain can Stay Awake.
When a child jumps on the sofa or runs in the hall, they often aren't thinking *"I want to break the rules."* They are thinking (subconsciously) *"I need to feel my body so I don't feel 'Empty' or 'Scared'."*
The Shift for Parents:
Instead of saying "Stop moving," say "You look like you need to move—where is a safe place for that?"
Provide "Movement Ramps": A mini-trampoline in the corner, a "wobble-cushion" for dinner, or 5 minutes of "Animal Crawls" before homework.
By providing the Output, you prevent the Explosion.
