Hormones and Neurodiversity: Women''s Health
Exploring- the impact of Puberty, Pregnancy, and Menopause on the neurodivergent experience.
Life's Hormological Milestones
Neurodivergence in women is heavily influenced by the Estrogen Baseline. Every time a woman's body goes through a major hormonal change, her "Neurodivergent expression" changes too.
1. Puberty: Many girls are diagnosed in middle school because the "Executive Load" of school becomes too big for their hormonally-fluctuating brains to mask.
2. Post-Partum: The "Baby Blues" are often much more intense for ADHD/Autistic moms. The sudden drop in hormones + high sensory demand + lack of sleep = Immediate System Failure.
3. Menopause: This is the most critical time. As estrogen permanently drops, ADHD symptoms that were "Managed" for 30 years can suddenly become debilitating. Many women receive their FIRST diagnosis in their 50s for this reason.
The Lesson: Biologically-driven struggles are not "Character Flaws." If you are 52 and suddenly can't remember where you parked your car, it might be your Estrogen, not "Early Dementia."
