Guilt vs. Self-Compassion
The 'Freeze' of shame vs. the 'Fuel' of compassion: Moving beyond the 'Failure' narrative.
Compassion as a Biological Tool
Most with ADHD believe that their Guilt is what keeps them "on track." You think: *"If I stop being hard on myself, I'll never get anything done."*
The Science Says the Opposite:
Shame is a focusing-killer. When you feel like a "failure," your Amygdala fires, and your Prefrontal Cortex (the thinking part) goes offline. You enter a Freeze State. This is why you stare at the dishes for 4 hours without moving.
Self-Compassion isn't about "letting yourself off the hook." It's about Strategic Support. It's saying: *"My brain is overwhelmed by these dishes. That's a biological fact. What's one tiny thing I can do to make this easier? (Like putting on music)."*
Compassion is the Fuel that lets you try again. Guilt is the Brake that keeps you stuck.
