Cognitive Flexibility: When the Plan Changes
How to handle 'Rigidity' and the 'All-or-Nothing' mindset when life doesn't go as expected.
From Rigidity to Resilience
The ADHD brain often relies on a "Perfect Plan" to get started. But if something small goes wrong—the keys are missing, or you woke up 5 minutes late—the brain can enter a Freeze State. This is Mental Rigidity. Your brain says: *"The plan is broken, therefore the día is over."*
Cognitive Flexibility is the "Mental Muscle" that allows you to say: *"The plan changed, and that's okay. What is the next best thing I can do right now?"*
The Strategy:
1. Label the Feeling: *"My brain is being rigid right now."*
2. Lower the Bar: If you can't do the 2-hour workout, do a 5-minute walk.
3. The 'Pivot' Rule: Always have a "Plan B" (The low-energy version) for every important task.
