CBT and DBT in Practice
How Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy are adapted for neurodivergent needs.
The Toolbox of the Brain
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is excellent for breaking down the "Big Scary Tasks" into small pieces. It helps you recognize when you are "future-tripping" (worrying about things that haven't happened) or "shaming" yourself into inaction.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is the "Life-Jacket" for intense emotions. It teaches Distress Tolerance—how to feel a massive surge of anger or RSD (Rejection Sensitivity) without letting it destroy your day or your relationships.
For the neurodivergent individual, these therapies only work if the therapist understands that ADHD/Autism is not a choice. The goal isn't to "be normal," but to build a toolkit that works for *your* specific brain.
