Being a Role Model: Breaking Generational Trauma
How parents with ADHD can heal their own past while raising a neuro-resilient generation.
Healing the 'Family Tree'
ADHD is highly genetic. This means many ADHD parents were raised by undiagnosed ADHD parents. This often created a cycle of Generational Trauma—where "struggle" was responded to with "anger" or "denial."
Breaking the Cycle:
As an ADHD role model, your job isn't to be "Perfect." It's to be Authentic.
Show the Work: If you forget to buy milk, don't scream at yourself. Say to your child: *"Oops, my brain forgot that task. I'm going to put it on my list for tomorrow. It's frustrating, but it's okay."*
The Power of 'I'm Sorry': If you lose your temper because you are overstimulated, apologize. *"I'm sorry I yelled. I was feeling overwhelmed by the noise. It wasn't your fault."*
This models Neuro-Resilience. It teaches your child that their "Mistakes" don't define their "Worth." You are healing the 8-year-old inside yourself by being the parent you always needed.
