Alternative Supports: Yoga and Meditation
Exploring- sensory-friendly ways to use movement and mindfulness for ADHD regulation.
Movement as Meditation
For many with ADHD, the instruction to *"Just sit still and clear your mind"* is a recipe for a meltdown. Our brains need Stimulation to reach Regulation.
Yoga and Tai Chi are "Moving Meditations." They provide heavy-load input to the muscles and joints (Proprioception), which tells the brain exactly where the body is in space. This "Grounding" effect is often more calming than sitting still.
Mindfulness Tip: Instead of "empty mind" meditation, try "Sensory Scanning." Focus intensely on one sound, then one smell, then one physical sensation. This feeds the ADHD brain's need for data while keeping it present.
