ADHD in Parenting: Managing the Chaos
Strategies for ADHD parents raising children, and neurotypical parents raising ADHD children.
The Overstimulation Trap
Parenting is a relentless sensory and executive function task. For an ADHD parent, the constant "Mummy/Daddy?" combined with the sensory input of sticky hands or loud toys as a Feedback Loop of Overload.
The Strategy: Low-Sensation Zones.
It's okay to wear loop earplugs or take a "sensory break" for 10 minutes. You cannot be a responsive parent if your own nervous system is in "Fight or Flight."
Organization for the ADHD Parent:
The 'Shared' Memory: Use one shared family app for appointments. If it's not on the app, it doesn't happen.
Batch the Decisions: Use routine menus or pre-picked outfits to save your "Decision Energy" for the moments that actually matter.
