ADHD and Workplace Privacy
The 'To Disclose or Not to Disclose' guide: Pros, cons, and methods of sharing your diagnosis at work.
Sharing the 'Need' vs. Sharing the 'Label'
Deciding whether to tell your boss you have ADHD is a high-stakes decision.
Strategy 1: Full Disclosure.
Best for supportive companies or when you need legal protections (IEP/Workplace adjustments). It ends the "secret" but requires you to educate others.
Strategy 2: Need-Based Advocacy (The 'Soft' Disclosure).
You don't use the word "ADHD." Instead, you state your Requirement: *"I work best when I have my tasks in writing. Can we follow up our calls with a quick email summary?"* or *"I need a quiet space for 2 hours a day to reach deep focus."*
Most managers care about Results. If you frame your needs as "Efficiency Tools" rather than "disability requests," you often get the same result without the potential stigma of the label.
