ADHD and Schema Therapy
Healing the 'Defectiveness' and 'Failure' schemas built over a lifetime of neurodivergent struggle.
Silencing the Punitive Parent
The most important intervention of Schema Therapy for ADHD is silencing the "Punitive Parent" voice. After years of hearing *"You're not trying hard enough"* or *"Why can't you be organized?"* from teachers and parents, you internalize that voice. It becomes your own "Inner Critic."
When you make a mistake, this voice attacks you with physical intensity.
The Healthy Adult Path: Therapy builds your "Healthy Adult Mode." This part of you says: *"I see that we missed the deadline. That's because my working memory failed, not because I'm a bad person. Let's fix the system for next time."* Through techniques like "Imagery Rescripting," you go back to those childhood moments of shame and give that child the validation and support they never received.
