ADHD and Reading Strategies
Overcoming the 'Visual Disconnect': Hacks for finishing books and retaining information.
Why We Read the Same Paragraph 5 Times
Does this happen to you? You read a whole page, get to the bottom, and realize your brain was actually thinking about what to have for dinner. You didn't "Read" anything.
This is Working Memory Saturation. Your eyes are working, but your "Processing Center" is full.
The ADHD Reading Toolbox:
Audio-Visual Sync (Bimodal): Listen to the audiobook WHILE following the text with your eyes. This uses two different "Neural Pipelines," making it 80% harder for your mind to wander.
The 'Ruler' Hack: Use a ruler or a 'Reading Guide' to cover all the lines *except* the one you are reading. This stops the "Visual Noise" of the rest of the page.
Active Marginalia: Don't just read. Attack the book. Use highlighters, write "WOW" or "?" in the margins. If your hands are moving, your brain is more likely to stay "Plugged In."
