ADHD and Creativity: The DMN Effect
The ability to connect unrelated ideas and the neurological basis of creative processes in the ADHD brain.
Divergent Thinking
Individuals with ADHD are often masters of Divergent Thinking. This is the ability to generate hundreds of different and unconventional solutions to a single problem. Your brain quickly builds bridges between concepts that might seem unrelated to others.
The neurological reason for this is that the brain's "dreaming" network, the Default Mode Network (DMN), doesn't shut down even when you are focused on a task. While this can make focusing difficult, it allows new and innovative ideas to leak into your conscious awareness.

Turning Creativity into Productivity
For the ADHD brain, generating ideas is the easy part—the difficulty lies in finishing them. To protect your creative process, create Low Friction spaces: always have a notepad or voice recorder within reach. Allow ideas an "incubation" period and use "Second Brain" methods to select the most exciting ones to follow through on.
Creativity is a positive expression of the brain's search for dopamine. Finding joy in the process keeps the brain's Task Positive Network (TPN) active, increasing your chances of completing a project.
