2e Parenting: Nurturing Potential, Managing Struggle
An emotional and pedagogical guide to raising a gifted and neurodivergent child.
The Shift: Building, Not Fixing
Raising a 2e child requires high "Nervous System Literacy." If you view your child's struggles as a "fault" to be fixed, you inadvertently create a deep sense of defectiveness in them.
Instead, adopt a Strength-Based approach. Their gifts are the bridge to the world. If they love space, use space to teach them about math or social patience. Don't hide the "gift" until the "struggle" is fixed—that will only lead to depression. The gift is the medicine for the struggle.

Home Regulation and Low Demand
2e children often spend their entire day Masking and using 100% of their cognitive energy at school. When they come home, they are often in a state of "Energy Bankruptcy." This is why "Meltdowns" frequently happen at home.
The Low-Demand Lifestyle:
Prioritize Autonomy: 2e kids respond to *reasons*, not *power*. Collaborate on rules rather than dictating them.
Safe Harbor: Make the home a sensory-neutral space where they don't have to "perform" or "be normal."
Decompression: Allow for uninterrupted "tunnel time" in their special interests without interruption.
