2e: Common Misdiagnosis and Identification Traps
Why 2e individuals are often missed by clinical tests; the masking effect of intelligence on neurodivergence.
Avoiding the Clinic Blindspot
The diagnosis of a 2e individual is a delicate art. Standard clinical evaluations often focus on "deficits" or "achievements" in isolation. In a 2e person, these two forces interact in ways that create a "False Flatline."
The Three Scenarios of 2e Identification:
1. Giftedness Masks the Disability: The individual performs well enough to be overlooked, but they are working 5x harder than their peers, leading to early burnout.
2. Disability Masks the Giftedness: The individual's ADHD or Dyslexia is so prominent that no one notices their extreme intellectual potential. They are placed in remedial classes that bore them to death.
3. The Mutual Masking (The Quiet Struggle): Both forces cancel each other out. The person looks "average," "mediocre," or "underachieving," and they fall through every safety net.
True 2e identification requires a comprehensive neuro-profile that looks at *internal effort* and *ascrenchrony* rather than just test scores.
