2e and Psychological Flexibility
Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles to navigate the 2e experience.
Bending, Not Breaking
For the 2e mind, which is prone to over-analysis and rigid "all-or-nothing" thinking, Psychological Flexibility is a survival skill. It is the ability to stay in contact with the present moment and change or persist in behavior based on your long-term values.
Key ACT Principles for 2e:
Defusion: Realizing that your thought "I am a failure at math" is just a thought, not an absolute reality.
Acceptance: Giving yourself permission to have a neurodivergent brain that makes mistakes, without letting those mistakes define your worth.
Values: Focusing on what *actually matters* to you (e.g., helping others, creating art) rather than societal benchmarks of "success."
By building mental agility, 2e individuals can learn to harness their high intelligence to solve life's problems without being crushed by the weight of their own expectations.
